Destroy the War Machine
Around 1988 in New York, singer Korey Clarke was starting up a band, and he needed a name for the group. After watching a T.V. Docudrama about World War II hero General George Patton called ‘Patton’s Last Stand’ he heard Patton’s wife remark as he lay dying, “The next time the world’s in trouble, hell come back as a warrior soul”. Clarke joined forces with guitarist John Ricco, bassist Pete McClanahan, and drummer Paul Ferguson to form Warrior Soul.
According to Clarke, they were signed to Geffen Records in 1989 after only four gigs. They released their debut record for Geffen in 1990 called ‘Last Decade Dead Century.’ Warrior Soul released three more records for Geffen, ‘Drugs, God and the New Repulic’ (1991) ‘Salutations From the Ghetto Nation’ (1992) and ‘Chill Pill’ (1993) and one record for Mayhem Records, ‘The Space Age Playboys’ (1995) which Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich claimed was his favorite album. The bands music was sometimes politically charged with songs such as ‘In Conclusion’ and ‘Children of the Winter.’ Despite critical acclaim and European sales, Warrior Soul could not break into the U.S. market with much success. Kory Clarke disbanded Warrior Soul in 1995 to pursue a new band aptly named The Space Age Playboys who put out two records and toured Europe.
In 2007, Clarke re-united Warrior Soul for a UK tour. The band recorded their 6th studio album titled ‘Chinese Democracy’ which was a limited edition record, but with Guns ‘N’ Roses record of the same name to be released shortly Warrior Soul renamed their record, ‘Destroy The War Machine‘ the band’s first studio album in 15 years, which will be released March 19 through FRW Records. The eight-song album, includes a cover of the Iggy Pop song ‘Knocking ‘Em Down (In The City)’.
