True Sounds Of The Underground
When you think of Swedish women you think of beautiful blond bombshell’s, well I’ve got a nuclear brunette bombshell for you named Liv that fronts the Swedish Hard Rock quartet Sister Sin. I’m normally not a fan of female fronted Rock and Metal bands but Sister Sin ROCKS HARD!
The band formed in 2003 and hails from Gothenburg, Sweden. Mysteriously, like their lead singer the band goes only by their first names, Liv (vocals) Jimmy (guitar) Benton (bass) and Dave (drums). Sister Sin released their debut record ‘Switchblade Serenades‘ on Victory Records in 2008 and it landed at 107 on the Top New Artist’s Albums Heatseekers chart in it’s first week of release in the U.S.
‘Switchblade Serenades‘ kicks off with the sound of a turntable needle being set down on a vinyl record complete with scratches and then explodes with the opening track ‘Beat The Street.’ Sister Sin has the sound of a switchblade wielding street savoy gang that doesn’t take shit from anyone. Liv’s gritty in your face vocal style almost makes you forget shes a beautiful woman as she tears through ‘Death Will Greet Us‘ the second song on the record. The band features an unrelenting straight forward attack to it’s song writing with guitarist Jimmy’s full, perfectly distorted guitar sound backed by the hard driving rhythm section of Benton and Dave.

Sister Sin
The fast paced ‘One Out Of Ten‘ (see video below) is a love song of sorts that continues the bands ferocious attack on your ears. Jimmy’s guitar solo’s are well crafted, straight forward jams that are not over indulgent and get to the point. ‘Breaking Ground‘ has Liv pushing her vocals to the limit and the band chanting the anthemic “Hey, Hey, Hey’ throughout the song. The band slows things down just a touch with ‘On Parole‘ a song that makes me think that Sister Sin was just granted this in order to track this record. “Shine the light on me, come on baby set me free, don’t go away, please please stay, roll over and make my day, ” is the chorus for the blistering song ‘Make My Day‘ with Liv screaming “Lets do it in the parking lot” enough said.
More vinyl scratches and ‘Hostile-Violent‘ blasts out of the speakers. Sister Sin has a distinctive sound and style that I just can’t get enough of, each song somehow sounds new and fresh, this band just flat out ROCKS! The title track ‘Switchblade Serenades‘ is a down and dirty number with Jimmy’s awesome ballsy, full guitar sound evident with sustained power chords throughout in which Liv delivers her vocals over, this guy can play. ‘Love/Hate‘ continues the assault on your senses followed by ‘All Systems Go‘ a song that features some great starts stop change ups and chord progressions. The record closes with the red hot rocker ‘Eye To Eye‘ that ends the same way it starts, with an instrumental march to the battlefield of revenge. More vinyl scratches and your left satisfied but still wanting more of this Kick Ass, Hard Rockin’ Swedish band. I can’t wait to hear ‘True Sounds Of The Underground.’
In support of the release of ‘Switchblade Serenades‘ Sister Sin hit the road hard in the U.S. supporting the legendary band Motorhead along with opening for Otep and Ill Nino. The band also played a European tour opening for Arch Enemy and played the Sweden Rock and Norway Rock Festivals.
Sister Sin has just completed recording their second record titled ‘True Sound Of The Underground‘ with producer Henrik Edenhed to be released June 22nd in the U.S via Victory Records and in Europe July 23rd via Metal Heaven Records.
